Omega 3 and fatty acids
What are the properties of fatty acids and which is the best form of Omega 3? Why are fatty acids important and what varieties are there?
What is Omega 3?
An important dietary supplement is fatty acids, the most common of which is Omega 3, which has an effect on the central nervous system, the building of cells and the general well-being. Salmon contains a lot of Omega 3, but we who live in the Nordic countries generally eat too little fatty fish and therefore need to add Omega 3 to our diet so as not to be deficient.
Omega 3 consists of three different types of fatty acids the parent fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Dokosahexaenoic acid (DHA) but when talking about Omega 3 it is usually EPA and DHA one is referring to. These two are essential and are found in animal products as well as phytoplankton where fish are the foods that contain the most of these fats. Flaxseed oil and mackerel are also two foods that contain good omega 3 fats.
On the market you can find fatty acids in the form of capsules (omega 3) or liquid in a bottle (fish oil) which got its name from how to make the oil from fish.
Indications if you have Omega 3 deficiency are dry skin, bad nails and scalp sores. If these agree, there may be a risk and then it may be good to add Omega 3 through a dietary supplement. It is a good and economical way to get a daily need in you.
What effects does Omega 3 have?
Fatty acids such as Omega 3 promote the body's fat burning, help with inflammation and can increase longevity.
There is also a type of Omega called Omega 6 but it is found in much of our diet and usually does not need to be added but we get enough in us by eating a regular diet. However, they need to be a balance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 because they work from different directions of inflammation. Omega 3 is namely anti-inflammatory while Omega 6 is inflammatory and therefore both are needed to create a healthy balance.
What are Fatty Acids?
The body needs fatty acids for various reasons and therefore becomes an important substance for the body. For example, fatty acids help fight inflammation while promoting hormone production, the health of cell membranes and nerve function. Fatty acids have also been shown to protect against cardiovascular disease, which is one of the most common diseases in adults.
